  1. gratitude 1

    September 5, 2011 by sarah

so typically mondays in my world revolve around me fighting off the alarm clock, stumbling down the hallways toward my classroom (often right before the bell rings), trying to pretend i am awake and focused, and just generally mourning the loss of the weekend and being VERY ready for 3:00 to roll around.

if you can’t tell, i am not a monday person. most especially during football season since so much of the actual weekend gets eaten up by game day.

i’ve decided, though, in an effort to write more that i’ll make mondays a day of reflection on the little things.  a list of gratitude.  someone – maybe my sister? – use to keep a gratitude journal.  i always thought it was a good idea. so now.  i will proceed to steal it.

    • a trip to texas and the chance to get caught up with some dear friends.  it was too short, but very worth it.
    • tasty coffee two mornings in a row.  first from panera on university in fort worth and second from old school bagel on may here in the city.
    • old school bagel in general.
    • a pretty mellow start to the school year.  it’s a nice change after two years of uncertainty on day 1.
    • patrick cleaning up the kitchen and putting away groceries while i am writing this.
    • nyquil and its ability to ALWAYS knock me out when i am sick so i can sleep.
    • the two older gentlemen at the gas station at the new walmart in  denton.  i stopped there yesterday to walk around for a bit.  when i was checking out i asked the cashier if i could get gas at the pumps in front of the store.  he said yes.  so i fight the traffic to get over there and proceed to try to pump my gas, which does in fact happen to be impossible if you don’t have a sam’s card.  grr.  BUT.  the two men working came out, swiped a card for me, proceeded to pump my gas  and then chat about football and the evilness of ou.  they have no idea, but they seriously made my day.  i was bummed about leaving my friends and not feeling very well at all, so it was a treat to encounter just plain ol’ niceness.

what about you?  what simple, everyday things are you thankful for?

  2. so this happened

    August 12, 2011 by sarah

first of all, we got married.

it was lovely.  i’ll write more about it later.  i’d put a picture up to prove its loveliness to you, but i’m just now starting to use this new format and it is one that wants to judge me for my picture sizes.  since i swore to myself that I WILL BLOG TODAY, you’ll forgive me for not stopping myself now that i am actually on the proverbial “roll” and minimize the file size of the one picture.  i’ll save that for another day.

also, it was summer.  usually my favorite time of the year.  but to be honest, when you start your summer off with a bang, i.e. a wedding and pretty fantastic honeymoon, the rest of your days seem kind of bland.  not that i mind bland.  trust me.  but it’s just kind of odd to be flying so high and feel so glamorous and spoiled in the days leading up to the wedding stuff (or whatever huge exciting life event you may be experiencing) and then to be sucked back into reality with a pretty immediate force.  our immediate force?  the five hour “red eye” flight from kona to lax three rows in front of a squealing child (who was like 5 or 15 or some sort of age way past the it’s-okay-to-squeal-for-five-hours-straight-without-some-sort-of-parental-intervention phase of childhood), finally making it to dfw and gearing up for our 30 minute flight home only to have our hopes dashed upon learning that our flight was cancelled (but american thought they maybe could get us on a plane a 9 p.m. – THE NEXT EVENING! – wasn’t that sweet of them?) and having to rent a car and drive the rest of the way home.  it was not a very fun way to end what was really a pretty awesome string of days.

and then, to be honest, the next month was kind of rough.  again with the extreme ups and downs, which someday i’ll write more about, but since they aren’t all my stories, i’ll kind of have to wait until the dust settles to share them here.

so in a way?  i’m kind of glad summer is coming to an end.

    yikes.

i can’t believe i typed that out loud.

also i can’t believe this post – my “triumphant return to blogging” after months of self-imposed hiatus (AKA laziness) – has turned into such a downer.  the ORIGINAL intention was to share randomness from the summer and wave at everyone and say “hey yall!  i’m back.”  so let’s do that, shall we?

oh wait.  new idea.  how about i just share my summer obsessions?

    • planet sub turkey club sandwich.
    • pop music.  like all of it.  like i am really worried that i may have lost the ability to scoff at autotune.
    • mad men seasons 1 and 2.  thank you netflix (even though your new pricing sucks) for FINALLY streaming this show so i can watch what i missed by starting at season 3.
    • looking at nail colors and designs online.  i have no idea why since . . .
    • chewing off all of my fingernails for some reason i can’t explain.
    • talking about the weather.  but seriously, that’s because of everyone else only wanting to talk about the weather!!!  because seriously, it was freaking hot.
    • the hunger games.  shut up.  i know i am two years late.
    • lady gaga, “edge of glory.”
    • pink, “perfect.”
    • bruno mars, um EVERY STINKIN’ THING HE SINGS.  but seriously, “lighters” collaboration with bad meets evil.
    • then, like everyone else, pinterest.  onto which i can obsess even more and then organize my obsessions, which for someone like me, is terribly addictive.  i’m sure my “followers” are probably all going to be pretty happy when i start back to school on monday and can no longer update my pins to the amount that i am embarrassed to admit to.

so yes.  summer was here.  now, not so much.

p.s. to feed the addiction, follow me on Follow Me on Pinterest

p.s.s. the list above is suppose to be bulleted. for some reason it isn’t showing. i’ll fix it later. gotsta go pick up the dog from the groomers, then cook dinner, then clean up, then resume random internet searches for nail polish.
